2011 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums

After the success of the 2010 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums, TriEvents are pleased to announce the details of the 2011 Series.

The series will consist of four races across as many days with all venues being in high profile metropolitan areas. This year the series includes a new course in Fremantle that will provide more excitement and a great finish to the event.

The 2011 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums are proudly supported by Healthway promoting the SmokeFree WA message, City of Perth, Town of Victoria Park, Town of Vincent, City of Fremantle and East Perth Redevelopment Authority (EPRA).

What is Criterium racing?

Criterium racing is the most exciting version of road racing. Each race involves high speed and intense competition, around a tight and intimate circuit. No rider is guaranteed a win and no spectator walks away disappointed, which sets the scene for a perfect week end of racing.

A Criterium is a fast paced, multi lap cycling race on a tight and relatively flat street course. The course is approximately 1km in length. Criteriums are raced over a specified time rather than a distance with the races lasting no longer than 1 hour.

Most venues give spectators the opportunity to see a high portion of the course with the circuits being tight and intimate. Tactics are usually played from start to finish; so spectators are more than entertained for the entirety of the race.

Each rider receives points for placing in the top 10 of the race and these points accumulate to decide the overall winner. With a large calibre of cyclists in the event, the overall winner is often not decided until the final race.

Entry into the Event

To enter into the 2011 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums riders must hold an Elite Cycling Licence with Cycling Australia or equivalent licence from country of origin.

There will not be a team ‘entry fee’ for the Smokefree Perth Criteriums, rather a sponsorship fee.

Team Sponsors have the prerogative to determine and enlist the riders in their team. The event organisers can assist in filling teams where required. Confirmation of acceptance of all teams is subject solely to the event organisers final approval.
